The CGAJ is delighted to have 3 expert speakers heading up the day.
Sports Psychologist Jeremy Cross is no stranger to local sportsmen and women. Jeremy will lead the sessions focusing on athletes’ MENTAL PREPARATION for competition.
Jeremy has a doctorate in Sport Psychology from Loughborough and is a qualified tennis performance coach. He specialises in the development of high performance environments to facilitate team and individual success.
JENNY DENYER will lead the sessions on LIFESTYLE MANAGEMENT. Jenny has a heritage in elite sport and applied research, combining a Ph.D in Performance Psychology in 2002 with an international squash career (1996-2005). Jenny was awarded the Sunday times Sportswoman of the year in 1999.
She will help athletes think about how they can optimise their time to successfully incorporate their family commitments, work and a well organised training programme for high performance results.
ALISON MOWBRAY will be focussing on PLANNING FOR SUCCESS. The session will include long term goal setting through to a short term (micro) planning.
Alison was a member of the British Rowing Team for 7 years and competed in 5 World Championships and 2 Olympic Games. (Silver medal in the Quad sculls in Athens 2004). She gained her Ph.D in Genetic Engineering from Cambridge University in 1997.
ORGANISATION
During the day there will be 3 talks running simultaneously. The groups have been set so the audience have something in common and to help the speakers.
Each group will be limited to 30 athletes and coaches. These will be accepted on a sport by sport basis with “EARLY REGISTRATION” available to CGA members through their association representatives. Closing date for association places (max 8 per association) February 17th.
Following this preliminary registration places will be made available to anyone who so wishes on a first come first served basis and will be advertised island wide no longer restricted to CGA members.
The groups are.
Group 1- Team sports.
All sports where sportsmen rely on others and have to work successfully as a unit. Teams could include some racquet sports.
Group 2- Repetition “target” sports
Sports where skill and concentration/repetition play a major role. e.g. shooting, archery, bowls.
Group 3 – Fitness based “individual” sports.
This should suit swimming, athletics, gymnastics, tennis would be here amongst others. ( This may be a “younger” group.)
PROGRAMME.
9.45. Refreshments available in the canteen.
10.00 Welcome and introduction in the main hall.
10.30 Groups go to their first session.
11.45 Refreshment break
12.00 Groups go to their second session
1.15 Cold, light buffet lunch. Chance to mingle/chat.
2.00 Groups go to their third session
3.15 All groups meet in the main hall- evaluation.
3.45 Disperse
