Introduction

Welcome to all visitors to this Web site
Since the formation of the Commonwealth Games Association of Jersey (CGAJ) in 1957, the Association has entered teams in 13 Commonwealth Games programmes, the first Games for Jersey being the VIth British Empire and Commonwealth Games held in Cardiff in 1958.

Although we are one of the smallest members of the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) - Jersey having a population of 87.347 according to the 1991 Census - our Association is proud to record that we have, to date, won five medals i.e. one Gold (shooting) and four Bronze ( two in shooting and two in boxing). Traditionally, Jersey's strongest Commonwealth sports are bowling and shooting.

The Association has also been a keen supporter of the recently introduced Youth Games and, with a small team of athletes, swimmers and a cyclist selected for the 2 nd Commonwealth Youth Games in Bendigo, Australia in November 2004, we view this event as an integral step in Jersey's sports development programme and an excellent introduction for potential team members for the main Games programmes.

Purpose of this website
It is hoped that this website will provide its readers with a wealth of information about members of our Association and of our organisation. There are also important links to websites of the Governing Bodies of member sports; the next Games and a link to the most comprehensive Commonwealth Games Federation website.

As with all websites, this can only be as good as our member sports make it in terms of their contributions at its introductory stage but also with their regular supply of information with results and reports of topical interest.

The Association's Officers will endeavour to ensure that the website is well-maintained with regular news items and updates and the movement of more dated articles and news items to its archive sections.
