Media Release - 10th January 2005

At a Council Meeting of the Commonwealth Games Association of Jersey on Thursday 6th January 2005, delegates gave their approval for the official launch of the Association's first website which is www.cgaj.org . The website includes sections on ‘The History of the Games', ‘The Youth Games', ‘Qualifying Standards for selection for future Games', ‘Media Releases', etc. There are also sections specifically for each member sport with contact details, competition results, photographs, links to other websites, etc.

The impact of the re-organisation of two of the Commonwealth Games sports, Lawn Bowls and Shooting, took effect at the Council Meeting. Both have a revised form of representation within the local Commonwealth Games Association – the newly formed body Bowls Jersey is an amalgamation of the former Jersey Bowls Association and the Jersey Women's Bowls Association and the Jersey Commonwealth Games Target Shooting Association has now been constituted to become the representative body on the Commonwealth Games Association of Jersey for the shooting disciplines of clay target, pistol, small bore and full bore shooting.

The Association is also pleased to report that after the above re-organisation the number of its member sports now stands at 15 with the acceptance of an application for membership from the Jersey Tenpin Bowling Association. This is a timely decision as the JTBA is committed to entering a team of local bowlers in the 2005 Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championships in Cyprus next April.
