COMMONWEALTH GAMES ASSOCIATION OF JERSEY - UNITED BY THE MOMENT

Commonwealth Games Melbourne 2006It is with great pride that “ Team Jersey” leaves these shores to compete in the XVIIIth Commonwealth Games to be held in Melbourne, Australia between the 15th and 26th March 2006.

35 dedicated competitors, together with a comprehensive support staff, make this the largest team from Jersey to participate in the Games since first entering in 1958. For the athletes from seven sports this will be the culmination of years of dedicated training in their respective disciplines. Their dreams are about to be fulfilled on one of the world's greatest sporting stages. Ultimate success might be measured in medals but every member of our team will be striving for personal best performances against opponents of “world-class” ability. Confidence and expectations are high!

We thank our patrons His Excellency, The Lieutenant-Governor of Jersey, Sir John Cheshire and The Bailiff of Jersey, Sir Philip Bailhache, for their ongoing support and encouragement.

We are indebted to our sponsors, without whose generosity we would not have been able to contemplate taking a team of this size on the sporting adventure of a lifetime. Our thanks therefore go to Education, Sport and Culture; The Royal Bank of Canada and its Trust Fund administrators; and to our principal sponsor Marks & Spencer (Jersey) Ltd. We are also grateful to Hotel l'Horizon and European Insurance Brokers Ltd, for their support.

The team is as well prepared and supported as it can be; now all that remains is for the athletes to go out and grasp the opportunity of a lifetime.
